Odi Community in Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, has cried out to both the state and federal government following recurrence of a natural disaster in the area caused by river surge.

The River Nun surrounding the community is threatening to wipe out Odi as it constantly overflows its banks destroying houses, roads and other facilities.
His Excellency, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, Governor of Bayelsa State, accompanied with His Excellency, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John-Jonah (rtd) Deputy Governor of Bayelsa state, the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Bayelsa State Chapter, Hon. Moses Cleopas, the Chief of Staff Government House, Rt. Hon. Talford Ongolo, the Chief of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly/ Member representing Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency 1 in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Tonye Emmanuel Isenah, Former Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Power, Amb (Dr.) Godknows Boladei Igali, the Hon. Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Ebipatei Apaingolo, the Hon. Commissioner for Special Duties (Central), Hon. Iselema Gbaranbiri, Caretaker Chairman of Kolokuma/ Opokuma LGA, Hon. Tolumoye Ibani Bikikoro, among others, embarked on inspection tour of the landslide that occurred last Sunday in Odi Community in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Mr. Didi Ogboin a victim of the disaster disclosed to newsmen that the surge pulled down eight houses and ravaged a large portion of the major road in a major disaster that unsettled the community.
Gov. Dickson has assured victims and the people of Odi community of government effort to do something that will prevent further recurrence without waiting for federal government intervention. He immediately directed the ministry of environment and works to come up with necessary modalities within two weeks to enable government mobilize to site. Gov Henry Seriake Dickson use the medium to call on the the federal authorities, the intervention agencies such the NDDC and most specially the ecological fund management office to collaborate with the state government to bring lasting solution to all communities facing ecological challenges in the state.
